2025/2026 Sporting Annual Review
Another Wonderful Year of Sport at Lowe's Wong Junior School
It has been another outstanding year of sporting success at Lowe's Wong Junior School, with our pupils demonstrating exceptional talent, determination, teamwork and sportsmanship across a wide range of competitions.
Our girls' football team enjoyed a remarkable season, completing an incredible treble by winning the league, the autumn tournament and the spring tournament. Their commitment, skill and teamwork throughout the year made them worthy champions.
Our boys' football teams also enjoyed tremendous success. The A Team lifted the League Cup and finished as runners-up in the County Cup after an excellent campaign. Meanwhile, the B Team enjoyed a fantastic season of their own, securing the league title and showcasing the strength and depth of football talent throughout the school.
In athletics, Lowe's Wong pupils once again excelled. Across the district athletics competitions, our athletes collected an impressive haul of medals and were arguably the most decorated team at the meeting. Their hard work, resilience and commitment to training were rewarded with a series of outstanding individual and team performances.
Our indoor athletes also impressed in the Sports Hall Athletics competition, where we finished as runners-up to Barnby Road in a highly competitive event.
Another highlight of the year came in boccia, where our team were crowned District Champions under the guidance of Mrs Hilton. This achievement reflects the inclusive sporting opportunities we strive to provide for all pupils.
In netball, our team produced a series of excellent performances to finish as runners-up in the Spring Tournament, expertly led by Mr Radford.
Our swimmers represented the school brilliantly at county level, achieving a fantastic second-place finish in the County Swimming Gala. Alongside this success, our dodgeball team triumphed in the Autumn Dodgeball Competition, with both teams benefiting from the support and organisation of Mr Follen.
While we are incredibly proud of the trophies, medals and accolades earned this year, we are equally proud of the way our children conduct themselves. Whether competing on the pitch, track or in the pool, our pupils are regularly commended for their outstanding sportsmanship, respect and positive attitudes. They are excellent ambassadors for Lowe's Wong Junior School.
Alongside our competitive achievements, we continue to focus on encouraging participation and developing a lifelong love of sport. Through our extensive programme of extracurricular clubs and activities, younger pupils are being given more opportunities than ever to get involved, develop their skills and enjoy being active.
We are also delighted to maintain our School Games Gold Mark Award, recognising our continued commitment to providing high-quality sporting opportunities for all pupils. A significant contribution to this success comes from our dedicated Year 6 Sports Leaders, who play an invaluable role in organising activities, encouraging participation and acting as role models for younger children.
A particular favourite on the school calendar remains the Year 3 and 4 Mixed Football Tournament organised by Mr Radford. This enjoyable event provides a wonderful opportunity for pupils to experience competitive sport in a fun, inclusive and supportive environment, and it is always a fitting way to round off the sporting year.
Sports Day was held a little earlier than usual this year, a decision that proved to be a wise one given the stifling temperatures experienced during June and July. The event was once again a tremendous success, with pupils demonstrating enthusiasm, determination and team spirit throughout the day.
As we reflect on another exceptional year of sport at Lowe's Wong Junior School, we would like to thank all of our pupils, staff, parents and volunteers for their support. We look forward to building on this year's successes and creating many more sporting memories in the year ahead.
Another wonderful year of sport at Lowe's Wong Junior School!
